About this Movie
Kuwaha Maori and the Floating Worlds Time Forgot
An elaborately carved kuwaha from New Zealand is heading to Singapore to become a prized exhibit at the globally renowned Gardens by the Bay. The kuwaha carving, or doorway, is a symbolic entry where the spiritual and physical spheres meet and come together. To fully understand the significance of the installation we embark on a journey that explores not only the motifs and symbolism behind the traditional art of carving, but also uncover how Maori traditions, heritage, culture and craft have connections and similarities to the rest of the Pacific, Melanesia and Asia. Many practices that are out of the spotlight, seemingly forgotten over time, live on in some of the most untouched parts of the world, and, perhaps unexpectedly, have relevance to how we live our lives today.
