Van Jones heads to the Last Frontier to witness the first-ever dialogue between a victim and an offender in the history of the Alaskan prison system. Terria Walters, a mother whose son Christopher was killed in a drug deal gone bad, wants to meet with the convicted killer, Joshua Beebe, a former heroin dealer serving a 60-year sentence.
Van Jones meets with Mariah Lucas, a 25-year-old mother of three whose own mother was murdered when Mariah was a toddler. Armed with a slew of unanswered questions about that night, Mariah wrote to Jason Clark, the man who stabbed her mom in a drug-fueled dispute over money.
For the past 10 years, Karen and David Stokes have been struggling to care for their daughter Ashlee, who suffered severe cognitive and physical impairment when a drunk driver hit her when she was 15 years old. Van Jones meets with Ashlee's family, who wants to sit down and talk with the woman who was behind the wheel driving with an alcohol level three times the legal limit.
Van Jones meets with Donald Lacy, an activist and comedian whose 16-year-old daughter, LoEshé, was murdered two decades ago in a gang-related shooting. For years, Donald has had nagging questions about what really happened the night of the incident, and he wants to meet with the man who took his daughter's life to find out the answers.
Van Jones travels to the small rural community of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, to meet with Michelle Walter, a mother whose son Nathan was killed in a tragic car accident. Michelle, a local teacher who has seen most of the young people in this tiny community circle through her classroom, immediately recognized the young man who killed her son.
Van Jones travels to Bakersfield, California, to meet with Thomas Morgan, a former sheriff who was shot in the neck and left to die while responding to a call in 1997. Tom and his wife Christy have struggled for years to come to terms with the attack and the implications it had on their lives. Twenty years after the incident, Tom wants to meet with Jason Samuel, who was the 17-year-old gang member who pulled the trigger.
Van travels to Sacramento to meet with Joshua "Gunner" Johnson. Gunner has spent the last two decades struggling with PTSD and a spinal injury after being shot multiple times in 1994 by Christian Branscombe. Christian not only left his friend Gunner to die that night, he also murdered Gunner's close friend sleeping on the couch.
