About this Show
Skin Hunters
Named after the headline of a 2002 article by three journalists who broke the case, Skin Hunters tells the story of a gruesome deal between emergency care workers and morticians in Łódź, Poland, that resulted in the deaths of several hundred victims. Since the early 1990s, emergency workers sold data about deaths to funeral homes -- and medics were also suspected of killing their patients for small profits. This arrangement between ambulance workers and funeral-home owners created an underground industry in which nearly 1000 patients may have become victims. Using interviews with doctors, prosecutors, journalists and the victims’ families, this four-part docuseries details how these crimes were carried out and their impact on the Polish medical system.
