Gold miners Dakota Fred and his son Dustin are determined to make a fortune no matter the risk. But to find the big gold payout, they'll put their lives on the line by diving deep beneath the raging waters of one of Alaska's wildest creeks.
The Dakota Boys arrive at McKinley Creek ready to dive beneath the rapids and land on piles of gold but Alaska has other plans. A winter flood has destroyed their equipment leading Fred to approach an old nemesis for help. Things turn around when Dustin discovers a plunge-pool he suspects harbors a huge gold cache.
Todd Hoffman sends an ex-marine to keep an eye on the Dakota Boys as they prepare to mine amid the raging rapids of McKinley Creek. Dustin's growing exasperation with future stepbrother Zack causes him to make a controversial decision and Fred faces a life-or-death situation when his air supply is cut off on his first dive.
Fred's not-so-silent investor Todd Hoffman makes a surprise visit to the dive site and promptly enrages Dustin with his authoritarian demeanor. Carlos dives the deepest yet but progress is thwarted by a massive boulder in his path. Later, the guys come together to surprise Fred on his 73rd birthday.
73-year-old Dakota Fred gets married for the fourth time. Dustin is under pressure to get results but the father and son crew are at odds over their mining plan. Dustin risks life and limb in an attempt to reach bedrock gold but when the creek water suddenly turns brown, the Dakota Boys are forced to evacuate.
Winter is fast approaching and The Dakota Boys are running out of time and money. They are confident gold is only feet away but before they can strike it rich they must first remove the massive boulder standing in their way. Dustin is hoping that an expensive new rock-lift he purchased will be the solution to their underwater problems.
The Team is left with only four gallons of gas to find the pocket of gold they believe lives at the bottom of the creek. Dustin and Fred have a huge blow-up about the mining operation's finances. Later, the crew is caught off guard when a flash flood plunges down McKinley Creek while Fred is diving underwater.
