When a dead girl is found in the woods, Commissioner Agnieszka Polkowska is assigned to investigate. It's a race against time as Agnieszka follows the trail of a suspected serial killer. What connects the perpetrator to the detective? And can she prevent further crimes?
A young girl is murdered in the vicinity of Opole. Horrific body injuries and traces left at the scene point to ritual murder. Due to the unusual cruelty of the crime and the suspicion that the perpetrator may be a serial killer, the Provincial Command assigns a reluctant Commissioner Agnieszka Polkowska to the investigation. Piotr Wolnicki is a guest lecturer of religious studies at Opole University. At the beginning of the academic year, he chooses a modest and intelligent student, Ewa, as his favorite. But the girl doesn't know her lecturer is hiding a dark secret.
Agnieszka and Tomasz return to the scene of a brutal crime. After analyzing the traces, they come to the conclusion that the arrangement of the girl's severed hands is a clue from the murderer. Agnieszka also comes across a deceptively similar murder from six months ago. After talking with the victim's parents, they find common features in both cases. Piotr's favorite student, Ewa, is a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Without asking the elders for permission, she decides to start studies. The girl is faced with a choice between further education and staying in the congregation. Lonely and lost, Ewa becomes an easy target for Piotr, who watches her every move.
The investigation is mentally exhausting for Agnieszka. An additional problem is the reaction of her superiors to her theory about the perpetrator of these brutal crimes. Time is running out. Convinced that the murderer has already begun his search for the next victim, Agnieszka decides to take a brave step to prevent future crimes. Meanwhile, Ewa decides to meet her boyfriend, who admits that he reported her to the congregation. He claims that all this is for her good and did not expect such serious consequences. To the girl's surprise, he also makes her an offer. How will Piotr react when he learns about the meeting?
Agnieszka and Wojtek find a dying Ewa in the forest. The perpetrator in a panic left the body and did not manage to finish the ritual. Will Agnieszka be able to save the girl? Despite the lack of support from her superiors, the commissioner searches for the next victims of the psychopath. Her hypothesis is confirmed when she finds the body of a young woman. In order to investigate the religious aspect of the case, the police engage an eminent specialist in the investigation ... Piotr.
Information is leaked to the public that the killer uses the pseudonym "Syrian." There are protests. The aggression of the city's inhabitants is directed at the refugees. Agnieszka knows perfectly well that this is a bad trail that the commander has chosen for political reasons. After receiving a mysterious message, Agnieszka decides to look for clues in the files of cases she has conducted in the past. While reviewing the records, she realizes that she doesn't remember most of them because of her alcoholism. Nevertheless, a crucial lead emerges.
After returning home, Piotr discreetly tries to dress his wound. Monika sees it and slowly begins to understand what really happened. Agnieszka suspects that the series of murders is related to her past. Even though Jola doesn't match the serial killer's victim profile, Agnieszka begins to worry about her safety. Wojtek advises that she share these concerns with Suzin. An unexpected message from the killer forces Agnieszka to abandon this idea. Agnieszka decides to discover the truth about her childhood.
Agnieszka begins a desperate search for clues to find Jola. She meets a priest at the cemetery and asks about the circumstances of her mother's death and goes to the police station in search of the case files. Wojtek is worried about Agnieszka, who does not answer his calls. Worried, he arrives at her apartment and opens the door. He does not find Agnieszka inside, but meets Roman. Together they go to Suzin and ask for help in finding the commissioner.
