Barefoot Contessa: Back to Basics

Amy and Tammy Slaton are larger-than-life sisters who have always relied on each other and food for support. Younger sister Amy, age 31, is desperate to have children, but hasn't been able to get pregnant due to her weight. While Tammy, age 32, is one step away from being bedridden and is unable to walk without assistance.

Sisters Amy and Tammy have decided to get weight loss surgery, but that will entail an eight-hour drive to visit with Bariatric Surgeon, Dr. Procter. Tammy suffers from blood clots and sitting in a car for that long can be dangerous, but it's a risk she feels she needs to take.

Sisters Amy and Tammy are ready to return home after a week in Atlanta to meet with bariatric surgeon Dr. Procter. Before they leave Atlanta, they try to take Dr. Procter's advice and go swimming in the hotel pool. At home, they decide to purge their pantry to begin the weight loss journey.

After having a huge fight with Tammy, Amy heads out for a much-needed date night with her husband Michael. All the problems with her sister are making it difficult for her to focus on her diet and Amy admits she wants Tammy out of the house.

If Amy gets approved for surgery, she worries she could die on the operating table so she's determined to have the dream wedding ceremony she never had. But when she goes wedding dress shopping, she isn't able to try on anything at the store.

After Tammy has her final weigh-in at Dr. Procter's office and finds out that she hasn't met her goal, she lashes out at Amy and shuts down when they head back to their hotel. Then, it's time for Amy's surgery. A terrified Amy says goodbye to Tammy and heads to the hospital.
