Tanjiro Kamado is living a modest but blissful life in the mountains. One day, when he returns from selling charcoal, he finds his family slaughtered in pools of blood. He rushes down the mountain with the sole survivor, his sister Nezuko, on his back.

At Giyu Tomioka's urging, Tanjiro heads for Mt. Sagiri with Nezuko who's been turned into a demon. During the night, Tanjiro catches the smell of blood from inside a temple. He enters, thinking that someone might be hurt, only to come upon a demon.

Tanjiro trains rigorously on the mountainside with seasoned Demon Slayer Sakonji Urokodaki only to meet his most challenging task a year later: splitting the world's strongest boulder in two using nothing but his sword.

Now clad in the official Demon Slayer uniform and with his very own Nichirin Sword, Tanjiro heads into town on his first assignment with Nezuko in tow to locate the town's missing girls.

And then there were three. Tanjiro, backed into a corner, is saved by Nezuko and follows the demons to their swamp.

Small-town Tanjiro is thrown into the bustling city life as his next assignment takes him to Asakusa, Tokyo where he picks up a scent.

The next mission is in Asakusa, Tokyo. Tanjiro picks up the demon’s scent there. His pursuit of the scent leads him to Muzan Kibutsuji. Tanjiro attempts to strike him down, but Kibutsuji transforms a passerby into a demon, triggering a commotion.

The two demons named Tamayo and Yushiro, who came to Tanjiro's rescue, reveal a possible cure to turn Nezuko back into a human.

The owner of the tsuzumi literally rocks the house as entire rooms rotate at the whim of his instrument, separating Tanjiro from Zenitsu in a house of horrors - one of which is a man with a boar for a head.
