Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

A.D. 2045. The emigration fleet, Macross 7, is ambushed by a mysterious enemy, interrupting Fire Bomber's outdoor rock concert. Lead vocalist Basara Nekki rushes into the fight in his beloved VF-19 Custom, Fire Valkyrie, and starts singing in the middle of the battlefield.

Milia, Mylene's mother, insists she goes on a blind date, and as Mylene seeks refuge in Basara's apartment, the air-raid sirens blare, warning of another attack. Basara once again heads for the battlefield in his VF-19 Custom, intent on striking both enemy and ally alike with his passionate singing.

Fire Bomber is invited to perform at Super Nova, a music festival that has launched many a band to stardom. As Basara heads to the venue, he comes across some musicians harassing Mylene. Afterwards, Basara regrets breaking his creed of using music instead of violence to reach people's hearts.

Fire Bomber's popularity soars while City 7 is plagued by a string of unusual incidents. People are being attacked and left in a vegetative state, and some believe it to be the work of vampires. One night after a show, Mylene finds herself the target of a pursuit.

When Fire Bomber's leader, Ray, accepts a gig on Factory Ship Three Star, a female biker gang comes to crash their show. The bikers heckle the band and chide Basara, asking whether he really puts his life on the line for singing. That is when the Varauta Army attacks.

Mylene still refuses to go on a date, so her mother, Mayor Milia Farina Jenius, offers her a deal: Go on this date, and she will support her in her band activities. Reluctantly, Mylene accepts. Meanwhile, her future date is conducting an investigation when he runs into Fire Bomber.

Milia gets Fire Bomber a gig playing on Resort Ship Riviera. Mylene is excited, but Basara could not care less. He starts playing songs that are not on the set list and sends Mylene into a furious rage. That is when the Varauta Army strikes again, attacking the Riviera.

Concerned about his use of weapons in the last battle, Basara searches for a sound that has more explosive power than missiles. In the meantime, Fire Bomber gets a chance for a record deal, but the session proves rather difficult as they fail to meet the music producer's standards.

Fire Bomber's first single is not doing well in terms of sales. Mylene is upset, but none of her bandmates seem to care. As she vows to turn their newest song with her vocals into the next big hit, she has an encounter with a famous singer who appears to be lacking in energy.

Mylene learns of Ray's connection with the military and becomes curious about his past. Meanwhile, Fire Bomber are to perform live for some industry professionals, but Ray's past comes back to bite him when the concert venue is subsequently attacked.

Mylene and Basara land starring roles in "The Lynn Minmay Story" television film, but Basara pulls out when he learns the film is to be a propaganda piece for the military. Filming continues with a replacement actor, but unfortunate incidents keep disrupting the shoot.

Mylene is abducted while out on a date. Max believes the enemy are behind this slew of recent kidnappings. As Gamlin and the Fire Bomber bandmates search for Mylene, Basara wonders whether they might reach Mylene through song, and so they put on an impromptu outdoor show.

City 7 has been forced to fold out into an unknown area in space. Enemy soldiers have taken over the underground system and are preparing for a second fold. Ray comes up with a plan to distract the enemy while Basara attempts to break in to the underground system with his VF-19 Custom Valkyrie.

City 7 has folded out once again to another region in space. Still, despite everything, Fire Bomber's fame has soared due to Mylene's television appearance on "The Lynn Minmay Story." As all this is happening, experimental treatment to cure the catatonic Battle 7 victims continues.

Mayor Milia hosts the Battroid Carnival to form a defense force. She aims to recruit new pilots and to encourage citizens to volunteer their Battroids. Mylene submits her pilot application, but she is not happy when she notices an application to seemingly get closer to Basara.

Mayor Milia and her team discover the captured pilot only reacts to Fire Bomber's songs. They request a private performance, and Basara is all too happy to sing for the enemy.

The enemy pilot wakes up after hearing Basara's song. Meanwhile, Battle 7 finally makes contact with City 7 and sends the Diamond Force and an escort carrier to the city's defenses. However, a ball of light appears before the defense force, destroying their Valkyries and absorbing their Spiritia.

Sivil was revived and annihilated the Diamond Force and escort carriers in her attack. An injured Gamlin anguishes over his inadequacies on the battlefield. Now, Sivil plots another attack on City 7 in order to meet with Basara and find out why his music has such a strange effect on her.

Sivil is on the hunt for both Basara and Spiritia when some local residents suddenly begin acting violently. Things escalate when a group of terrorists take over City Hall and hold Mayor Milia and her staff hostage.

Fans flock to see Fire Bomber's next show, including Rex, the leader of the female biker gang. Rex is acting very strangely, and even attempts to seduce Basara as a jealous Mylene watches from the sidelines.

Sivil goes after one of Fire Bomber's biggest fans, but is forced to switch targets when things do not go her way. Back in the recording studio, Akiko is listening to Fire Bomber's performance when she starts to display some disturbing behavior.

City 7 is about to melt away, trapped in the pull of a nearby burning star. Faced with destruction, crews rush to repair the city's damaged fold system. Meanwhile, aboard Battle 7, Dr. Chiba unveils his latest invention; a tool he theorizes could help locate City 7.

Captain Maximilian Jenius implements one of the military's long-standing initiatives; the formation of the Sound Force squadron. He grants Ray full authority to select the members for this special unit, but makes a personal request regarding the member selection.

Captain Docker and his Emerald Force will protect Sound Force in battle with their latest VF-19 Excalibur Valkyries in Gamlin's stead. Seeing how shocked Gamlin is by his new orders, Mylene tries to comfort him.

Gigil sets his sights on Mylene and Gamlin's Spiritia in order to wake Sivil up from her dormant state. Meanwhile, Basara's Valkyrie formation practice with his team is not going well, so Ray and Akiko come up with an unexpected plan to help improve Basara's effectiveness within a team setting.

Macross 7 arrives at Planet Lux, but Captain Max is suspicious. Basara and Mylene make the descent down to the planet against orders, only to encounter a gruesome scene. Realizing the danger, Captain Max orders the fleet to leave, but it may already be too late.

While Macross 7 undergoes repairs on Planet Lux, Dr. Chiba introduces Fire Bomber to his newest invention: the Sound Energy System. The device needs to be tested, but Basara has mysteriously lost his voice, so Mylene volunteers to test out the device at their next concert in his stead.

As Gigil desperately tries to wake Sivil up, the newly awakened Protodeviln attack Macross 7. Mylene struggles against them until Basara belatedly joins the fight. As usual, he faces the enemy through song, but the Protodevilns' actions anger him so much that he loses his cool.

Mylene finds it suspicious that Basara is leaving his apartment late at night, so she follows him. She runs into her bodyguard, Michael, who mentions her parents' worsening relationship. Determined to do something about it, Mylene invites them out for some quality time together.

Gamlin uncharacteristically defends Basara when Mylene complains about her bandmate's suspicious actions. Meanwhile, Gavil leads a new force of pilots to attack Macross 7 and exploits a weakness of the Sound Force squadron.

Basara has become the target of gossip magazines with reporters hounding his every move. One such reporter, Janet, spies on Basara and discovers the secret he has been hiding.

Colonel Barton holds auditions for Jamming Birds, a music squadron similar to Sound Force. Basara despises the idea of the military using his music as a weapon and reacts badly to the news. When Jamming Birds deploy on their first sortie, the new pilots experience the terror of the battlefield.

Mylene decides to spy on Basara to find out what he has been up to every night. As she arrives at his final destination, Mylene is shocked at what she finds. In bewilderment, she seeks advice from Max, but there is a third party secretly listening in on their conversation.

Basara goes on a solo journey in search of a reason for why he sings. Mylene thinks he is leaving because of her, so she goes after him to apologize. Meanwhile, Gepelnitchi orders the dormant Sivil to be assassinated.

Basara is still missing, so Mylene and Gamlin use the Song Energy Detector to find him. As time passes without a reaction, and with few clues as to Basara's whereabouts, Mylene's frustration reaches its peak. Then, Gubaba wanders off, leaving Mylene to spend the night alone with Gamlin.

Basara has been located, but he abruptly flies off again after dreaming about Sivil. Following his instincts, he spots Sivil in a remote area covered in clouds. However, Basara is not the only one looking for Sivil, and as the ground begins to rumble, it is a race against time to get to her.

Basara takes off once again, following Sivil on a journey through the galaxy. Back on Planet Lux, Exsedol leaves Battle 7 to investigate some ancient ruins that have suddenly appeared. However, Gepelnitchi believes the ruins are a danger to his plans, so he sends his troops to destroy it.

After discovering his reason for singing, Basara finally returns to reunite with Fire Bomber. Meanwhile, Gepelnitchi moves forward with his Spiritia Farm Project and surrounds Planet Lux with seventy thousand troops, trapping Macross 7 on the planet.

Akiko uses military footage of Fire Bomber in action to create a new promo video for the band. Meanwhile, Basara's Valkyrie goes in for some much needed repairs. It is still out of commission when Gavil attacks Battle 7, so the Jamming Birds are forced to deploy.

In a strategy meeting regarding the Protodeviln threat, Basara argues for using music to achieve peace. However, the military stands firm on the need to go to war. Unfortunately, Sound Force's struggles in their next battle just might prove the...

Mylene is run off her feet with Fire Bomber concerts and Sound Force duties. Amidst all this newfound busyness, she runs into a young boy named Billy, who says he is a huge fan of hers. However, his cheeky behavior and incessant photographing only serves to irritate Mylene.

Dr. Chiba believes Anima Spiritia and Song Energy are somehow related. To test his theory, he comes up with a plan to capture a Protodeviln. Sound Force puts his plan into action in their next battle against Gavil and Glavil, but the operation takes a deadly turn for the worse.

Macross 7 receives shocking orders to destroy the fourth planet in the Varauta system. Max will lead a group of elite pilots on this deadly mission, dubbed Operation Stargazer. With a low chance of survival, the pilots will risk everything to carry out their orders.

Operation Stargazer is almost guaranteed to fail, and yet despite all odds, Gamlin and his fellow pilots set their sights on the enemy planet to take out the Protodeviln sealed within it. In the midst of battle, Max joins the fray in his VF-22S to complete the operation.

Operation Stargazer ended in failure. Gepelnitchi takes Basara and the remaining pilots captive, offering them their lives in exchange for becoming part of his Spiritia Farm. However, Mylene and Gubaba have other ideas and come up with a plan to help the pilots break free.

Basara and the Macross 7 pilots manage to return from the Varauta system on a hijacked Varauta ship. However, Gamlin suddenly starts attacking and stripping everyone he meets of their Spiritia. Sensing something is off, Sound Force use their Sound Energy on him, so Gamlin takes Mylene as a hostage.

Gepelnitchi awakens two Protodeviln using the abundant Spiritia from his Spiritia Farm and orders them to capture Basara. The newly awakened Protodeviln attack Macross 7, and when regular weapons prove ineffective against these two new enemies, Sound Force is deployed to stop them.

With his Spiritia gone, Basara is still unconscious. Conversely, in the Varauta system, Gepelnitchi begins the process of waking his real body up. However, he needs more Spiritia, so the Protodeviln raid Macross 7. Max takes Battle 7 back to the Varauta system to stop Gepelnitchi.

Gepelnitchi has lost control, and has begun absorbing the Spiritia of every living thing across the galaxy. As the people of Macross 7 lose their Spiritia, Gamlin makes his way to the comatose Basara.

Fire Bomber's popularity continues to fly higher than a burning comet. A special TV program profiles the band's mysterious past. Using interviews and conjecture, the show tells the tale of how a young Basara met his bandmates.

Milia approaches Mylene with yet another marriage proposal. However, it is not Gamlin, but Basara that is put forward as the groom-to-be. Milia's strange behavior continues, and Mylene wonders whether her mother might be suffering from some unknown illness, so she turns to Max for help.

Macross 7 is attacked by a rogue Zentradi fleet, and the commander of this all-female Zentradi force has a shared history with Milia. Every attempt to negotiate for peace fails, and so Macross 7 is left with no choice but to recreate the famous Minmay Attack.
